Our Learning Teams

St Peter’s School is a community united and strengthened by our Catholic faith. We have a strong sense of family and provide opportunities for all of our students to shine.

A major part of our role as a school of special character is to develop each child’s faith journey with Christ and to provide opportunities for children to encounter prayer and religious instruction, as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

The Religious Education programme is values-based and fosters an attitude of inclusiveness. Our newly developed school values challenge each of us to be more like Jesus.
  • Whakaute (respectful)
  • Rangimarie (peaceful, inclusive, empathetic)
  • Pākiki (curious, inquiring, enthusiastic)
  • Māia (confident, courageous, capable, resilient)
  • Manaakitanga (caring, compassionate, kind)

Matau Team ~ Years 0 – 3

We have a vibrant learning environment which includes periods of structured learning, and times of creative discovery. This combined approach provides opportunities for students to develop the values and key competencies of the New Zealand curriculum, as they explore, experiment and problem-solve through play.

Please keep in the remaining lower two paragraphs from the junior team.

This pedagogical approach provides opportunities for students to develop the values and key competencies of the New Zealand curriculum, as they explore, experiment and problem-solve through play.

As a team we strive to develop learning-focused relationships with students, enabling them to be active participants in the process of acquiring new knowledge, sharing ownership and responsibility for their learning.

We have high expectations for the learning outcomes in all areas of the curriculum and endeavour to create an environment where all learners can be confident in their identities, languages, and abilities. Children are supported to be culturally responsive and develop the ability to learn from and relate respectfully to people of your own culture as well as those from other cultures.

Tangaroa Team ~ Years 4 – 8

The Tangaroa team work collaboratively to plan and implement classroom programmes. We aspire to follow the servant leadership model of Jesus, putting the learner at the centre of all we do. Students in Tangaroa will have a specialist teacher in English, Maths and Science.

Students are provided with a wide variety of authentic and challenging learning activities and there is a strong focus on 21st Century learning skills; communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

There is an expectation that students will take an active role in their learning, with teachers and students working collaboratively to set goals and design learning tasks. An Inquiry learning approach provides our students with opportunities to explore topics at greater depth.
