School closure due to strike – message from school board

Sun Mar 12 08:00am

Dear School Community,

On Thursday 16 March, teachers and principals across the country will be on strike. Our board has made the decision to close the school for the day.

We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption this causes, however we stand beside teachers and principals.

Ultimately, their work conditions are our children’s learning conditions and we should all seek the best. Your ongoing support of the teachers and principals is greatly appreciated.

Yours kindly,

Paul Arthurs (Presiding Member – St. Peter’s School Board)

Playground use

Fri Mar 10 02:32pm

Kia ora,

Please ensure you stay with your children during collection (at the end of the school day). We require this active supervision of your children if they are still on school grounds.

I know we are all aware that stone throwing, bad language, and the likes of this are unacceptable. It places families and staff in a challenging position if this happens while parents are on-site with their children but not closely monitoring behaviour.

Kind regards,

Sarah Lowe

Prayer in the church

Fri Mar 10 01:09pm

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays from next week onwards, we are opening the church from 2.30 to 3pm. I have an amazing group of Mums who have volunteered to do this. A huge ‘Thank you’ to them in advance.

You are all welcome to simply come into the church and sit in prayerful silence before you pick your child /children up.

There will be prayer suggestions available for you or you may wish to sit gently and offer your own prayers to God.

Please remain silent for these sessions to allow all to find the peace they need in this sacred space.

The church will be closed at 3pm.

So please take up this opportunity to gentle yourself before the busyness of after school activities.

God bess

Sandra Shamy

Violin Lessons now available

Mon Mar 06 11:01am

Dear families,

We now have a violin tutor available to teach at school.

Rebecca McCartney will be offering weekly lessons on Tuesdays. She is a fantastic performer herself (playing regularly with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and on Saturday night performing Back to the Future at the town hall) and also has a young family so is very much in tune with understanding children in our school’s age bracket.

People often ask what age is good for beginning violin. The answer is that some children are ready at 4, and others more like 10 years old. The most important factors early on include ability to stick at practising (15 mins a day minimum) and calm, focused listening skills. Parent support is vital.

Lessons are $35 per week, and this is paid for privately (i.e. not through the school accounts).

If you would like your child to begin violin lessons, please reply below by pressing the email button, and I will put you in touch with Rebecca directly.

Kind regards,

Sarah Lowe

Safety at pick up and drop off

Fri Mar 03 02:16pm

Good morning families,

We are aware that because of renovations we have increased parking pressure.

Please be extra careful – we have had a number of complaints around close calls with children and cars, largely due to double parking and u-turns on Fisher Ave and Beckenham Street, and use of neighbouring driveways.

Drop off and pick ups at peak time should be limited to 5-10 minutes max unless you’ve a parent teacher meeting.

We really appreciate your assistance in keeping our children safe.

Kind regards,

St Peter’s School

School renovation project beginning tomorrow 9.30am – details for access provided below

Sun Feb 12 07:17pm

Good evening all,

Tomorrow begins the start of our renovation project. Arriving to school will be as usual, however from tomorrow afternoon please note:

– Beckenham St will continue to operate as normal through this build

– Fisher ave pedestrian access will still be used, however the children will cross the car park and walk along to the far end of Tangaroa block and enter from these gates – this will be a fenced pedestrian walk way

– children will not be allowed to walk up or down the driveway access (no change from the usual here) and we need to be especially mindful of large vehicles that will be entering in and out of the site

– Please drop your children off on the school side of the road.

Hann Construction have put together a detailed health and safety plan and we are confident we have all measure in place. Thank you for working with us through this period of exciting change.

Kind regards,

Sarah Lowe
